Is WordPress A Thankless Community?

Ever released a theme/plugin for wordpress and gets it gets downloaded xxxx number of times yet only 1 or 2 people would stop and say thank you let alone donate?

Jeff Chandler laments this trend with the wordpress community over at weblogtoolscollection:

Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed a disturbing trend. Many of the plugin authors I have spoken with throughout the community tell me that very rarely do they ever get a donation let alone a Thank You for releasing their work to the public. Based on the plugin authors feedback, end users demand more features, demand better support, and in the end, have this feeling of entitlement even if the plugin is available without a price tag. I am a wordpress user. Just starting. I’ve been browsing for plug-ins that will complement the needs of my site.

Anyway, THANK YOU. – to the one who owns this blog and the one who gave the comment. Am not sure if I have come across your work and will need it. Just the same, let it come from me – again THANK YOU. You and the thousand others allow the the continuous development of a fascinating web application. You may feel neglected at times, but I firmly believe in the saying, what you sow is what you reap. You may not get a donation or even a thank you, as you have said, but in the distant future, we all benefit, including yourself, from the good and charitable work that you and a thousand others are doing. More power!
