“. Here my solution for this problem in wordpress 2.5.1:
Simply make sure that your direct upload folder (not necessarily wp-content/upload/ especially if you use the year and date folders option.) is CHMOD’ed to 777. Worked for me.

I was looking for solution and landed to your blog, changing the permissions to 777 definately may work but is not very much good solution coz it comes up with security hole to your files permitting each user on server to access your files…
Need to get better solution and will update here if I will get one.
