Blogging Pacquiao-Barrera = Server Crash
Here’s a quick review of the Barrera vs Pacquiao Rematch, in terms of the fight itself, the tv coverage and blogging the event. Pacquiao came into the fight looking gaunt and ghostly as some newspapers noticed. Barrera came in a bit more energetic with that menacing look on his face. I thought it would be a rough and tumble event but sadly it wasnt.
Barrera was content to test Manny’s defenses and stay out of range rather than slug it out with Pacman. Sound strategy but unfortunately it resulted in a boring fight (except perhaps for round 11) as Pacman also was unable to solve barrera’s shift in strategy by turning to his left on many occasions. It was a solid if unspectacular fight but hardly the fight that most filipinos expected it to be. I think more filipinos were betting on which round barrera would be knocked out rather than the result itself.
The television coverage was routine as coverage goes. The only bad thing was the flood of commercials that plagued the fight. It took FOREVER to finish the fight on television. I think the television spots got more airtime than the fight itself. For every round there was like 15 TV ads. It would be ok i guess if the fight was exciting in itself or if we didnt knew the results of the fight via text messages and live updates via teh olde fashioned radio.
Oh, blogging about it over at Codamon.com produce the highest traffic ever for the site since December 2006. The web server crashed at one point during my live blog updates (contents via ESPN) and my host had to throttle my apache connections just to keep the site afloat. Thanks to all those who visited and posted comments. I just wished i could’ve ran a contest or something. Maybe next time.
Yes, it was a very successful blogging event for me (SEO helped a lot) but i just wished the actual fight was more exciting and had less tv ads. =)
