About Desperate Housewives, Teri Hatcher and Med Schools
One topic that is fast spreading throughout the local blogging scene is Teri Hatcher’s line in a recent episode of Desperate Housewives. She says:
“Okay. Before going further, can I check these diplomas cause I would just like to make sure that they’re not from some med school in the Philippines?”.
Personally, i thought it was funny. I don’t know about you but i still have a healthy dose of humor in my system. If this came out via a respected news program like Larry King Live or via a news interview with a US official then I’d be up in arms as well.
But having a Teri Hatcher say these lines in an entertainment-based comedy-drama TV show hardly makes a dent in my book.
Next Scandal please.

Oh come on people…where is your sense of humor?! If netizens in this country would throw themselves to another useless boycott maybe its highly time i move to myanmar. Why don’t you just take it with a grain of salt will ya?
“bato bato sa langit… ang tamaan ‘wag magagalit…” Some Filipinos find it funny, some made them mad… Can’t we, Filipinos, really can’t take a joke??? or are we just really guilty…???
yung mga pinoy na OA makes me feel like they’re offended at some comedy-drama TV primetime for pointing out that Philippines (specifically Recto) makes fake diplomas.
Instead na ayusin yung fake diploma makers dun sa part ng Manila na yun, manghihingi na lang daw sila ng apology, mas sisikat na sila, mas mukha pang bida sa public. LOOOOOL
first of all its not about recto, she is not implying that the diploma is fake but it came from the Philippines! the script writer could have written down ” a gaduate from a med school from god-know where”. its plain racist! being a doctor, im naturally hurt but. deep down the root to blame is the Government. not giving doctors here what they are due. that’s why o lot of doctors are leaving to be nurses in the states, the governmwent is not taking care of doctors, instead of an apology the govenrment should fix the big problem in our health system!
I found an interesting perspective on the subject from another Filipino blog here:

Some food for thought to digest, certainly.
The flips had it coming on account of the worry-some situation in the Philippines. Where in the world you have to take two medical board exams even if you passed on the first take? Where in the world doctors will downgrade themselves as nurses just to get to the US? Only in the Philippines!
Jokes will be jokes. Desperate housewives is a comedy-joke sitcom. It is not a serious commentary like Brockaw or Rather TV commentaries. More serious and derogatory jokes on flips appear on Howard Stern show that could had him shot by Flips. Flips have these propensity to crack jokes like those jokes on their convicted former president who’s luxuriously languishing in his palatial self-made jail - just like the jail of the Columbian druglord, Escobar. (The incumbents allow this convicted president to have a grand rest-house for a jail maybe for the main reason they could have same treatment just in case they are caught with similar charges.)
Medical-oriented jokes abound like when a doctor told the convicted former president he has to apply local anesthesia to his wound and the president remarked to apply “imported” anesthesia ’cause money’s no problem!
Anyway, the Flips can get back by making their own TV sitcom “Desperate Housemaids” starring Ai-ai de las alas or “Desperate Houseboys” starring Joey Marquez with his expensive walis ting-tings.
that is a very tactless comment. di ako sang ayon.di naman sila dapat ganyan, sana matutunan din nila ang leksyon nila.babalikan din sila nang karma

I didn’t even blog it. All this uproar over a joke about fake diplomas sold along Recto is just silly.
