Adsense Publishers need a Privacy Policy
With the advent of the new Google Adsense Terms of Service, Adsense Publishers are now required to have a Privacy Policy on their sites. Yep, this includes us bloggers. From section 1. Program Participation of the revised adsense TOS:
You may enroll in the Program and create an account for the sole purpose of receiving payment from Google, and not, for purposes of clarification, for the purpose of displaying Ads, Links, Search Results and/or Referral Buttons on a Property. If, however, You subsequently use your Account to participate in the Program (i.e. for the purpose of displaying Ads, Links, Search Results and/or Referral Buttons on a Property), then such use of the Program will be governed by the terms of this Agreement. You must have and abide by an appropriate privacy policy that clearly discloses that third parties may be placing and reading cookies on your users’ browser, or using web beacons to collect information, in the course of ads being served on your website. Your privacy policy should also include information about user options for cookie management.
But, you may ask, what is a Privacy Policy?
A Privacy Policy is a legal notice on a website providing information about the use of personal information - particularly personal information collected via the website - by the website owner. Privacy policies usually contain details of what personal information is collected, how the personal information may be used, the persons to whom the personal information may be disclosed, the security measures taken to protect the personal information, and whether the website uses cookies and/or web bugs.
Ignoring this requirement may be a direct violation of the Google Terms of Service and subject to account suspension.
